Content Description
This collection is made up of post cards from France during World War I, most of which have embroidered patterns on the front. These patterns are often either patriotic or shows of unity between France and their allies in World War I. Messages on the cards were written by U.S. soldier John W. Williamson Jr. to his sister and his mother. There are also handkercheifs and doilies, many of which are embroidered as souvenirs from France.

Biographical / Historical
Sgt. John W. Williamson Jr. was born on August 22, 1894 and was enlisted into the U.S. military on June 15, 1917. John Williams served in World War I in France, and was discharged from the military on May 21, 1919. During the war he sent numerous letters to his mother and sister in Tennessee. John W. Williams lived in Tennessee and died in Memphis, Tennessee on September 26, 1955.
