Biographical / Historical

In April 1878, the Bellefont Post Office opened for the first time in Bellefont, KS. In July 1885 J.A. Cline and George M. Hoover were landowners who believed that Bellefont would be a railhead for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad. However, the railroad did not build a junction there and the city did not grow. The post office closed in August 1896 but reopened in 1904. The population remained small, leading to the closure of the post office in May 1957.
