These photographs primarily contain images of nurses employed at Saint Anthony's Hospital in Dodge City, Kansas. Photographs also include images of Sister Mary Gertrude O'Mara, Geraldine Newell, and various neighbors and friends of Geraldine Newell.

Biographical / Historical

Geraldine May Newell was born in Dodge City in 1915. She attained an education as a medical nurse and pursued a lifelong career in health care. She moved away from this area as a young adult and spent much of her life in Tucson, Arizona.

Geraldine was born in Dodge City, Kansas on 05-23-1915 to Dee and Ethel Newell. She attended Dodge City schools and graduated from Dodge City Senior High School in 1934. She had participated in girls' athletics and was chosen as the basketball representative on the Girls Athletics Association at the senior high. She received more education at the St. Anthony Nursing School, also in Dodge City. She began her career at the St. Anthony Hospital there.

Sometime later Geraldine moved to Tucson, Arizona, where she served as the County District Nurse of the Student Program for Pima County. Geraldine Newell died in Tucson on 05-05-1988.
