Biographical / Historical
These photographs document the dedication of the flag pole at the local post of the American Legion in Dodge City, Kansas on June 17, 1951. The flag pole was donated by an anonymous person who lost a son in World War II and wanted to honor the war dead of that conflict. The dedication was further sponsored by the Dodge City Elks Club. The ceremonies included the firing of 105 millimeter howitzers from the 161st armored field battalion of the Kansas National Guard, with guns being brought in from Pratt, Liberal, and Garden City.
