Biographical / Historical

The Dodge City Country Club was established in 1916, allegedly when Dr. W.O. Thompson suggested the idea. Though Dodge City's Moncrief Quarter was originally considered as the location for the golf course, Moncrief's provision that alcohol not be located on the premises of the title removed that location from consideration, and the Country Club and golf course was built at its present location. the land was purchased from A. Russell at $40 an acre for 60 acres. The Country Club contained a bowling alley, a kitchen, and a few open areas and porches. In 2023, the Country Club still operates and is located at 1900 Country Club Drive, north of Comanche Street.
