Content Description

This collection contains 13 photographs of the 1965 Arkansas River Flood in Dodge City, including several images of the flood and flood damage in South Dodge, 3 photographs of a fire in 1964 at the Fowler Furniture Store, and one photograph of St. Mary's President Mike McCarty awarding Milburn Stone an honorary doctorate in 1976. Milburn Stone played the character "Doc" Galen Adamas on the television Western series Gunsmoke.

Biographical / Historical

Arthur W. "Art" Morenus was born in 1916 in Pulaski, New York. Morenus served in the U.S. armed forces during World War II, and after the war moved to Dodge City with his wife. In Dodge City, Morenus worked as a press photographer for the Dodge City Daily Globe. He died in Dodge City in 2004.
