Scope and Contents
This collection contains a telegram and three newspaper clippings about Mary Burke and the accidental death of her husband, Michael Burke, by electrocution at the Bowen mine near Trinidad on June 27, 1905.

Biographical / Historical
Mary O'Rourke Burke, originally of Larned, Kansas, was married to Michael W. Burke around 1900. Michael Burke was originally from Pittston, Pennsylvania, and moved to Colorado in 1878. Burke was active in politics and labor organizing in Denver, and represented the Ninth Ward in Denver's board of aldermen in 1887. He died of an accident in 1905, which Mary Burke was notified of during a visit to Idaho Springs, Colorado. Mary Burke subsequently returned to Larned, Kansas, where she was buried in 1945.
